7 Day Prayer Challenge

Why should we Pray?
Are you still debating the reason why we should pray? Well here is a 7 day challenge for you.

Day 1 – Let’s start with why we should pray. The way I see it is that if it was good enough for Jesus then why isn’t it good enough for me? Look in Mark 1:35 (NIV) where it says: “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed."  How wonderful to see that Jesus, being the son of God, made a special time to pray. He didn’t just throw it in when he could; He actually made it His priority before the hustle and bustle of the day ahead. And believe me that wasn’t the only time Jesustook care to do so; look for yourself in:  Mat 14:22-23, Luke 6:12, Luke 9:28, Luke 5:15-16, Luke 11:1-4 and these are only a few!!

Day 2 – Okay, now that we know why prayer is essential, let’s see what other purposes it serves. Look in Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing but the body is weak.” WOW, that is important but sadly I must admit that I’ve never specifically prayed to God to keep me from falling into temptation;  but reading this passage is such an eye opener because although my spirit is willing my body is weak! So let’s make sure we pray for this one.

Day 3 – Today we are going to forget about us and pray for others. Maybe you have friends who have stopped praying or friends who have asked you to help them through prayer; maybe to overcome sickness, financial problems, family problems etc… the list is endless.  Open your bible and look in 2 Corinthians 1:11 (NIV) where we read: “You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.” Isn’t it great to know that even if you can’t be with a person physically you can help them through prayer? What a gift to have intercessory prayer.

Day 4 – It’s past the middle of the week and I’m certain that we are all beginning to feel the stress and anxiety of daily life, so why not pray to God to give you peace of mind. Look in Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanks giving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." It’s true, no matter what kind of anxiety, having God handling our problems gives us a sense of peace that is priceless. It’s comforting to know that we have someone greater, wiser, stronger, more powerful, loving and perfect, in charge.

Day 5 – One of the best things about prayer is that it’s free. You don’t buy it and it’s not exclusive to the rich and successful. Read Psalm 102:17 (NIV) “He will respond to the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their plea."  I love this verse as it’s telling me that Jesus is there for me no matter how rich (financially or spiritually) I am. God does not turn away from me; in fact, I can just see Him in His infinite mercy and love embracing me unconditionally.

Day 6 – No matter how big or small your petition, God doesn’t see them as pointless. Look up 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 (NIV) “Pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” These words you speak are the most powerful tools you can possess. Ask God your petition today and see His power at work.

Day 7 – Last but definitely not least, remember the powerful advice Jesus gave his disciples. Look in Luke 18:1 (NIV) “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” So no matter how you feel and no matter if God does not answer your prayer straight away, remember to NEVER give up. Just keep praying and know that God in his infinite wisdom has the perfect timing for when you need what you’re asking for.

The power of prayer should not be underestimated. Share your testimonies with #Gorgeous2God on Facebook and Instagram!
