Power of Prayer
Have you ever finished your prayer and then realize that you’d forgotten someone? And then you think about all of the other people who need your prayers too. You feel guilty that you can’t remember them and you don’t want to let them down, but your memory just can’t keep up. Well, you’re definitely not alone there!
Our prayer lists change, increase or decrease, on a daily basis as we pray for our friends, our loved ones and ourselves. But what can we do so that we don’t forget? How about starting a prayer list notebook?
When I was first told of this I really had no idea what it was or what purpose it would serve. But wow, now that I've started it I can’t think of a better prayer tool to help me.
A prayer list notebook is a format you can use to record the names and details of those you would like to pray for. Yes, that might even include the names of all your family members. Personally, I like to take pray for them individually instead of just in general because they all have individual needs.
The other thing I like to do is write a brief description of what it is I’m praying for. It might look something like this:
SAMPLE PRAYER REQUEST
August 27th, 2012 (8:15pm)
i. 'Joanna' –for God to help her find a new job
ii. 'Mary' –that God helps her daughter find Jesus again
iii. 'Julie' –to help her feel peace as she goes for her P’s today
ANSWERED PRAYERS
September 2nd, 2012 (7:00am)
i. Anna found a great Job! Thank you! (Then put a little tick next to the name so that you know that God answered)
Remember, there’s no word limit, but keep your notebook in a private place where it will not be discovered by others as it may contain confidential information.
Once you’ve written in the names of the people that have asked you to pray for them, take hold of the notebook and pray over it. Ask God to take care of the people you’ve written about and do His will in each of their lives. Just keep adding names as they come along, date each request and then enter another date when the petition has been answered. Tick each name off.
Never underestimate what prayer can do. God sees your petitions and will answer them according to His will.
“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy. Philippians 1:3-4
