My depression is getting worse.

Subject: Depression
Message: I have been suffering with mild depression, but I never did anything about it. Now it's getting worse and I don't know what to do about it. I don't want to take anything for it because I hate meds.
Response:
Dear M & M,
I am so sorry to hear about what you're going through. I know all too well myself how depression can take over your life and leave you feeling drained and empty. You are not alone. Thousands of people experience depression--but there is hope--and you don't have to live this way forever. I understand your hesitation about meds--many people feel that way. The best place to start is with a psychiatrist who can evaluate and properly treat your symptoms. Be up front about your feelings about medication, but also try to keep an open mind about what the doctor has to say. The first step is understanding that depression is a serious thing but it can be managed with therapy. Also, tell an adult you trust about what you're going through so you have support through the process.
Praying for you,
